A curated rotating showcase

Indie Author Shelf

The Indie Shelf at The Book Nook is a rotating curated space dedicated to fantasy, atmospheric fiction, and imaginative storytelling from indie authors and small presses.

We especially love stories filled with wonder, folklore, cosy magic, emotional depth, strange worlds, and underrepresented voices.

Because our shop is intentionally small and immersive, shelf space is very limited and selections are carefully curated to fit the atmosphere and vision of the space.

Local submissions only

The Indie Author Shelf is currently open to local indie authors based in Norfolk, Suffolk, and Cambridgeshire.

We are starting locally so we can build a thoughtful regional showcase and support writers connected to East Anglia.

How it works

  • Selected titles are featured as part of a rotating display
  • Shelf rotations may happen monthly or seasonally
  • Only small quantities are stocked at one time
  • The shop operates on a small curated consignment basis
  • Submission does not guarantee acceptance
  • Due to the size of the space, response times may vary

Our values

The Book Nook is intended to be a welcoming, inclusive, community-focused space for readers, writers, dreamers, and wanderers.

We deeply value stories created in good faith and warmly welcome diverse voices, identities, experiences, and perspectives.

We understand that stories may explore difficult themes, trauma, conflict, oppression, flawed characters, or morally grey worlds. We are not looking for sanitised storytelling.

However, submitted works should not intentionally promote misogyny, racism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, xenophobia, or other forms of hatred or dehumanisation.

Supporting human creativity is also deeply important to the ethos of the shop, which is why we do not accept AI-generated written content, cover art, or promotional imagery.
